Hardware - November 2007

Hi! I am trying to see if there a way to scan a sheet of text and open the scanned image in Microsoft WORD, so that the resulting scan is now movable and usable text (letters, punctuation etc...).
I have an HP PSC 1210 all-in -one scanner now. I used to be able to do this using a feature called "scan to OCR" but that feature doesn't seem available on my HP scanner.
Does anyone know of any software that can do this and will either (1) work with my scanner model or (2) be able to interpret the resulting scanned files and recognize the letters and punctuation marks so that they can be edited in as regular text file?
Any suggestions would be a great help as I have TONS of documents I need to scan and work with (first drafts of stories etc). Thanks loads in advance!

I have an nvidia geforce go 6150, which has 128 mb of dedicated memory. Right now, there is 271 mb of shared system memory, for a total of 399mb of graphics memory. However, it is supposed to provide up to 559 mb of total graphics memory. So, how exactly do I increase the total shared system memory?

I`m planning on buying a laptop soon. I see laptops that have a sattelite option with it. Is that like wireless? is it free or do you need a server? If it not free how much would a person spend a month on service for a Sat hookup.

Why is it called a laptop if you have to keep it plugged in for top performance? I called Best Buy and they told me to expect slower performance to save the battery. Doesnt that contradict the reason for having a laptop in the first place?

Good Day! Does a laserjet printer have settings for print quality? Like "high, standard or fast" or "Best, normal, econofast". And for those who are experienced laserjet users, how many pages can a laser jet print under the fast or econofast setting? With my research, hp claims that it can print 2500 pages, and i guess this is in the normal setting?

I have some computer glasses I ordered from internet that supposedly help reduce eye strain from looking into a computer screen several hours each day, but they are not that strong and I need something stronger. If you know of a good website where I could buy computer glasses in varying strengths, that would be helpful.

I'm also considering a screen for the monitor itself but haven't found one yet that fits snugly on a laptop. I carry my laptop everywhere and often have it open at odd angles so the fit onto the screen is important.

Any suggestions?

I have two ram sticks, each are 1gb/ 667. When I use one at a time.........either stick then my pc works fine, however when I use them together my system will eventually crash showing the blue screen after a while. I have checked my motherboard manual and it is supportive of the ram, however could it be that the motherboard cannot handle this much ram because it states that it will support 2gb ram and when I check the ram I am using then 2047mb is indicated. Both sticks have been used independently and work fine. What is the problem?

I have dialup at home, but wanted to use the internet with my daughter's highspeed connection. My laptop has wireless and accessed her broadband; it said I was connected. However, when I clicked the Internet Explorer icon, my PC prompted me to connect using my dialup connection (just like there was no connection yet). What do I need to do to let my PC know which connection to use? I have used two different dialup connections in one day without a problem.

I just got a microsoft USB wireless keyboard and mouse and everything works fine but when i restart my PC it will not load up windows and displays the message no keyboard found. but if i install the old ps2 keyboard it will reconize it and starts up fine. why is it that when its up and running it reconizes the usb keyboard but not when it is in the process of restarting ?

so under my computer there is a yellow question mark with exclamation mark too, its under OTHER DEVICES, then under that there are two things: 1 is unknown device, and the 2nd is VIDEO CONTROLLER(VGA COMPATIBLE) and both of those have the yellow question marks, meaning there is a problem...

the guy i bought this from just installed a fresh windows professional operating system on it

when i go on the internet, SCROLLING up and down is NOT smooth, this is what bothers me, that i cant even play simple games online (like from addictinggames.com) but mostly the internet surfing makes me mad that its not smooth

any advice?
