Well there are many reason for ur comp being slow

its not ur Ram....512mb is good enough.....add one more RAm of 512 that would make it better.......

Start is slow------ remove temporary internet files n temporary files

goto c:\documnts n settings\username\
here there are some folders which has temproray files.....clear them up
goto c:\windows\prefetch
clear that folder up

Goto start click on run......type msconfig

remove unwanted programs that run during start up

These things will make ur comp faster....

Regarding ur internet.........u have not specified ur net speed or bandwidth.......otherwise with more RAm u would definitely do well

Enjoy ....Hope this answers ur Question n solves ur problem

512 MB for memory is very little. If you have virus and spyware protection installed then it is using all of your memory. I would buy some quality memory like Patriot etc - go for 2 GB of memory. Your HD should have minimum 15% free space available...more is better. Do a defrag of the HD. Boost your mem first of all. After that do a free scan with Spyware Dr to see if you have any bad things hanging out in your pc.

What is the operating system that you have? If it is XP then you need to see what is running on start up. Go to programs then startup and look at whats there. If there are a lot of things there then you need to remove some. The other thing is clean out the prefetch. Do a search for files that are .pf and delete them. Some other things that you can try are to use CTRL ALT DEL and see what is running in the task manager. IT will tell you how much processor the applications are using.

You ram is quite small these days...loading times will be relatively long with 512....if you play games go for 2 gigs..if not go for 1 gig....also do a disk clean up and defragment your hard drive....

Also make sure that not so many applications are running on start up..you can disable these...

Spyware/adware/crapware. AVG doesn't pick up on this since they aren't classed as viruses. Go to www.download.com, get Spybot Search & Destroy. Install. Update. Run (will take overnite). Let it delete all it finds.
