Flash drive : great for PORTABLE STORAGE between places. but NOT so great for long term reliable storage.

Need more space, look at an external hard drive.

Also amount of files depends on many thingsm like file size. MY 4mp camera gives files that are approx 2mb, so a 2G key would hold close to 1000. If I had a new 9mp camera, it would hold MANY less

Best Flash Drive For Photos

How many depends on how big. Photos can be 2MB or more if taken with a digital camera, so you might get 1000 pics on it. If you use it for nothing else.

Songs are about 4MB each, so you would get maybe 400 songs, if you used it for nothing else.

Bottom line, get the largest you can afford.

You can get a 4GB Cruzer, with login security, for $40

IF you want permanent storage, look at an external hard drive. You can get 250GB of storage for only about $70, and though it wont fit into your pocket, it is portable.

How many pictures you can store depends on the resolution/files size they are when you take them or modify them. The smaller the file size, the more you are going to be able to fit on the drive.

Compared to a 700MB CD-ROM, I've been able to stash a couple hundred pictures on that format, and that's only 700MB. Most of my file sizes are 500KB to 700KB in range (that's per file), and that's with a pretty decent res picture (I own a 6.0 megapixel camera, set on medium quality most of the time).

Hope this helps.

If each photo is about 700 mB, a 2gB flash drive will hold nearly 3000 photos.

The best place to buy USB Flash Drives online is at Amazon.com who has a massive selection to choose from at low prices. USB flash drives are also called thumb drives, or jump drives, are pocket-sized digital data storage devices.

Useful for transferring documents, pictures and music files, these drives are secure, reusable and much easier to transport than other forms of external data storage. These drives can be carried in pockets, hooked to keychains and clipped to laptop cases.

They are easily accessible and inexpensive temporary data storage solutions.

Going online to buy USB flash drives is by far the best way to go. For one thing, the selection available online far outshine anything available in retail. On top of that, the prices are better (especially if buying in bulk) because the retail markup is removed.

Transfer speeds should also be considered. USB flash drives of 3.0 will perform much faster than 2.0 drives.

The number of pictures depends on the size of the picture. If you have a camera that is a 3.2 mega pixel, its pictures will take about half the space as a camera with 5 mega pixels.

Just take 2 gig and divide it by the mega pixel of the camera for a ROUGH idea.

Size of picture depends on compression scheme.

as long as you're being at least moderately intelligent with how bit the file sizes for the pictures are, you will be able to fit HUNDREDS on a 2gig drive.
if you need info on making the picture have a file format to take up less space, feel free to contact me.
