Hardware - November 2007

Anybody have any idea what's going on? I keep getting an error message that says: "The floppy disk controller reported an error that is not recognized by the floppy disk driver."

I also had problems loading a disc that had some jpeg files on it. If you can help let me know. Please try not to be too technical.

Those who have Acer with Windows vista. When I start up my computer there's an error message says that your activation period has expired because you didn't activate the product key in 30 days. I tried retyping the product key but it stills not working. You will receive an error message says "The product key you have entered will not work with this edition of Windows Vista". You must either run Windows Vista setup (whitch it won't run with no windows in it) or enter a Vista Buesiness product key. I NEED HELP!!!

I recently bought an HP Pavillion DV 6000 Notebook with Windows Home Premium and since I have an internet connection I also bought a Belkin wireless router for it. My problem is everytime I want to use the internet on my notebook it either:

A) Does not connect at all and a message saying "Unsuccesfully Connected" shows up
or
B) I connect to the internet but after awhile (about 10 or 15 min. later) it no longer loads any web pages but yet it still shows me having an active internet connection between the router and the computer.

I have reset the router, reset the notebook, moved closer to the router, reset the internet modem, tried repairing the connection, reinstalled Windows and I have even directly connected the notebook to the router. Nothing seems to work and yes I do have a strong signal. I dont know what to do. Why cant I connect to the internet wirelessly? If I do connect, why doesnt it load any web pages anymore wirelessly or wired? Please this is driving me crazy.

hello guys and girls. i think it's time to upgrade my graphics card for my already new system as i want to do better gaming. i've been thinking of buying the 8600gt 512mb. then i noticed that the 8600gts 256mb is in a very close price range.. which of the 2 do you think is better? or please recommend a good alternative in that price range

I used windows XP. and last night i downloaded kodak easyshare for my friend's camera. when i tried to start the program, the computer restarter for no reason. when the desktop showed up again, a bubble that said "found new hardware (camera name)". the bubble went away, and the computer restarted again. I tried to use safe mode, but the monitor says "no signal input" in a blue box, shuts off, then re-appears. As if it couldn't get any worse, the computer no longer is capable of using safe mode, and it just restarts when you turn it on.

so far, it seems like the cpu is no good anymore..

I have 1 gb of ram and only a dinky 40 gb harddrive. Xp windows and a 1.6 processor. I want a 300 or more harddrive. If I buy new xpwindows with m own disk for registering, a plug and play external harddrive (the box I think one is called), and a proper virus protection SHOULD this be able to operate my computer faster? The windows sometime "hang" and web pages seem a little slow loading. I just want crap to work on this stupid invention!!! :) Rick

For Christmas my mom was going to just get me a credit card for 300 dollars on it and i dont want that at all. i want a Mac computer, all my friends have one and they al video chat together and its so annoying being left out, also im really into computer graphics and photo retouching and everything so the Imac is for sure the computer for me, the Dell im on now is HORRIBLE and extremely slow!!! I get great grades but my parents wont take me seriously when i say i NEED a Mac! How do i convince them to get me one???

Right now, my specs are
Dual AMD Core 4600+
1 GB Ram (2 DDR PC2-5200 512 mb) i have 2 slots left that can hold 1 GB each
nVidia 7500 LE 256 MB DDR memory even though it says Aprrox 512 mb?

i'm pretty sure on buying two sticks of 1 GB ram and just popping them in, but i need to know what kind will work with my computer.

and i want to get a top of the line graphics card, but i'm not sure how high i should go so my processor can still work it nicely.

i don't want a 1,000 graphics card that i can't take full power of.
another thing is, i don't know if my card is onboard, or if it isn't if it is PCI or PCIexpress, and how many slots i have open.



also, would it be easier just to get a brand new computer with all the stuff in it, plus a quad core processor?

Right now I have a Dell Dimension 1100 desktop. It has a celeron d 2.8. I will be buying a new barebones computer with a AMD Athlon 64 3500+ on a PCChips A13G+ (V3.0) Motherboard - NVIDIA GeForce 6100, Socket AM2. How much better is this setup? I have a disk of burned movies on a SwissTec disk and when I put it in to my computer, it does not open automatically. When I click on the D: drive it says to insert a disk. The guy who burned it for me says it worked fine on his computer so I'm not sure what's wrong. Is there a program I need to download to read the disk, or something? Anybody have any idea?? Thanks.

I am getting a new laptop soon, the only thing is that I am not exactly loaded so I'll be getting a budget one with an Intel Celeron processor, probably a new 500 series M version.

Now I've used Celerons for ages, never found them to be that bad, but I know they use a little bit more power than Pentiums and AMD processors.

How much is battery life in a laptop affected by a Celeron processor?

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 it was constantly over heating and shutting down or running at the speed of supper slow so about 3 weeks ago I had a friend system restore it for me with the disks that dell provided when we were done my speakers didn’t work I had no internet and it lost my printer! I think we might have installed windows on top of windows because now I’m running out of memory (it wasn’t even half way full before the system restore) somebody pleas tell me how to wipe out my hard drive completely and start over!
