Right now I have a Dell Dimension 1100 desktop. It has a celeron d 2.8. I will be buying a new barebones computer with a AMD Athlon 64 3500+ on a PCChips A13G+ (V3.0) Motherboard - NVIDIA GeForce 6100, Socket AM2. How much better is this setup? How much better is this AMD compared to the Celeron D?

Much better. Yes, the celeron is a downgraded budget preocessor. The AMD Athlon 3500+ should run a bit faster than a a P4 3.2ghz. You should consider upgrading the video card if you're going to try to play any games on it, the 6100 is the bottom of its line.
