If you wait for sales, you can get a b&w laser printer from Samsung or Brother for a little more than $50, sometimes even without rebates. They should be able to handle A4 size paper. Check Staples or Office Max or Office Depot if there is one in your area. or online if not.

Once you've sorted out if you want "CHEAP" or "BEST" ask again. The 2 do NOT go together fully.
Personally I use a Brother, and have had no problems.
Check the price of toners (and drums if they use a 2 part consumable system) before you buy.

Ditto Steve B!
Also: Why not just buy a Colour Printer that matches your pocket & just print in B&W if thats what you want to do.

For the price these days -- here is a network b&w laser for 89.99.. now that is cheap and Brother not too bad.
http://www.buy.com/prod/brother-hl-2070n-network-laser-printer/q/loc/101/10398615.html
Since it already has the network interface its a super deal.
Or here is the 3 in 1 -- printer copier scanner
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=MFC-8120-R&cat=PRN
not bad for $64.95 either.

If you're talking about inkjet printers, b&w's aren't made anymore. The only b&w printers are laser's, and they're way more expensive than inkjets.
