compaq presario c571nr notebook pc, they have a large hard drive, lots of gigs, and have great wireless internet. we got my daughter's at best buy

11 year olds and expensive pieces of equipment = bad idea. Unless your 11 year old is the type that can be trusted with an expensive piece of equipment, buy them a PC. Costs about half as much to fix if they break something. What does an 11 year old need a portable computer for anyways? They don't. Im 30 and I don't need a portable computer. Get them a PC if anything.

Just buy the cheapest notebook you can find - buy a new one because used ones are too much hassle. But does he or she need a laptop? It makes me laugh when people say they "need it for schoolwork", I mean really, have parents forgotten what school was actually like when they were kids?
A desktop PC is a better investment and cheaper too.
