I recently bought a sony vaio VGN-CR24G with a hard drive of 120GB and windows vista home premium as the OS. I only have a single drive which shows its capacity as 102GB. The problem is my hard drive space is getting filled up without putting any file or installing any kind of software. Even activities like burning a DVD or surfing the internet is eating up the space rapidly. In the morning I had 82GB free space out of 102GB, after surfing the net for 2 hours, it showed 79 GB free of 102 GB. What is eating up the space on my hard drive? Also can anyone help me with the total size of the drive. I understand that some 9GB is taken by the recovery drive but still the total capacity of the drive should be 120-9=112GB. Why do I only have 102GB available? The OS and system files which take up around 9 GB are in C: drive so why is it that the total space available on C: drive is 102GB? Please help me out. Thanks a lot in advance.

I like to tinker with old computers, research the issues and fix them and give them away. I have this one, no idea what issues it has because I can't get the monitor to power up with it. You can hear the computer powering, but the monitor light stays amber. Its not the monitor, I hooked it up with another one, and its fine. I read on the net that it could be the keyboard is not compatible with the mobo. Does anyone else have any ideas on this? The computer is pretty old, a Compaq built for 98, which I intend to completely redo with 2000.

A computer printer, or more commonly a printer, produces a hard copy (permanent human-readable text and/or graphics) of documents stored in electronic form, usually on physical print media such as paper transparencies. Many printers are primarily used as computer peripherals, and are attached by a printer cable to a computer which serves as a document source. Other printers, commonly known as network printers, have built-in network interfaces (typically wireless or Ethernet), and can serve as a hardcopy device for any user on the network.

In addition, many modern printers can directly interface to electronic media such as memory sticks or memory cards, or to image capture devices such as digital cameras, scanners; some printers are combined with a scanners and/or fax machines in a single unit.

A printer which is combined with a scanner can essentially function as a photocopier.

Printers are designed for low-volume, short-turnaround print jobs; requiring virtually no setup time to achieve a hard copy of a given document. However, printers are generally slow devices (30 pages per minute is considered fast; and many consumer printers are far slower than that), and the cost-per-page is relatively high.

In contrast, the printing press (which serves much the same function), is designed and optimized for high-volume print jobs such as newspaper print runs--printing presses are capable of hundreds of pages per minute or more, and have an incremental cost-per-page which is a fraction of that of printers.

The printing press remains the machine of choice for high-volume, professional publishing. However, as printers have improved in quality and performance, many jobs which used to be done by professional print shops are now done by users on local printers; see desktop publishing.

The world's first computer printer was a 19th century mechanically driven apparatus invented by Charles Babbage for his Difference Engine.

HI there

My PC is knackered and Ive been rolling around Ebay for a new one. The following place seems quite reliable but I just wondered if anyone could tell me if the specifications seem ok?? It seems a really good deal.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DUAL-CORE-5600-AM2-64BIT-4GB-PC-19-TFT-320GB-nVidia_W0QQitemZ200165664116QQihZ010QQcategoryZ179QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem

Id like a machine that can play the latest games and has a nice amount of space for music etc, this seems to be the ticket but I just wanted some opinions for folk who know the nitty gritty. Dont get me wrong I'm not after a complete beast of a machine, but I just wondered if there was anything particularly dodgy about this deal.

Thanks for any help/opinions

Shaun

Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.0 GHz with 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS,
Or the same processor above with 1.6 GHz, with 256MB NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GT?

It pretty much comes down to the comparison between better video card, or better processing power.

After I use the "safely remore hardware" icon to remove a memory card, my HP desktop with its 8-in-one card reader always requires a computer restart before it can read another card. Once I properly remove a card, Device Manager shows the USB Mass Storage device disabled with an exclamation point. Reenabling the device has no effect. Only a complete restart brings it back up and running. Is that the way it must work?

I recently purchased a desktop computer and wanted to install the professional sound card into a PCI slot. The computer only had 2 PCI slots and they were being used by a serial/ parallel coms card and a Dual Screen display card. I asked the company that sold it to me why there are only 2 PCI slots and they told me that the PCI slot is obsolete? I find this hard to believe. Is there a way to expand the number of PCI slots?

Thanks
