i should have asked, seconds in download time . it seems to go on forever.

No. I think what you refer to is Unix time, which is the number of seconds elapsed since 1970. The Unix time on your computer is set to your time zone as far as I know, and not GMT.

To the accuracy of your PC's clock, yes.

A second is a second is a second, wherever you are.


This does assume that you are at rest relative to Greenwich. If you are moving then there will be some relativistic effects, but they are probably less then the error in your PC's clock crystal.

Except if you synchronize it to a time server.

But again you don't know if the time server has exactly the same time with the Greenwich Mean Time.

a second is a second is a second. does not matter the type of second. Even a New York minute is the same as a Dallas minute, albeit a less conservative one.
