Centrino is not a chip, or even a piece of hardware.
Centrino is a marketing scheme created and supported by Intel and offered to builders.
If the builder uses an Intel chipset, and Intel wireless setup and an Intel (low power) Mobile Processor chip, the builder came put the word Centrino on the notebook.
What the builder get is free access to a muilti million dollar advertising campaign paid for by Intel.
