A lot of PC hardware is actually manufactured in China and other Asian countries so right from the start they have an advantage. The components Alienware builds their laptops with actually comes from China and Japan as well, its probably just a business decision not to ship there.

The gaming laptops that Alienware make are not really anything special and its more of a niche market, you don't need an Alienware, Voodo PC or anything of that nature to play games.

Even though they are basically the center of the world for that kind of thing it doesn't really mean that anyone else is worse of, its more related to the economic wealth of the country as to how prolific computers are going to be more then the supply chain. Remember where there is a demand there will always be someone to supply them.

Definitely, you do not need a gaming computer.. but you need the upgraded components... Whatever game you are wanting to play.. check out the requirements they say you should have (not the minimums) and make sure your pc has those.
Mostly... 1 - 2g of RAM, a fast processor/motherboard, and good videocard. All which can be bought here. Try newegg.com's packaged pc.
