Hardware - October 2007

I play a game called o2jam and simply it is a game where notes fall from the sky and you press the corresponding keys. Problem is, i noticed that when i am holding on to 'f', when i press 'j' there is no effect, however, there is no problem if i press other keys together, such as 'd' and 'k'. Can some body help?

and thats all it will do the same thing over and over ctlr+alt+del.to restart..can't get pass that..even with the disk it's same thing when i put that in to.....it's a toshiba m40/m45

I've had this dinosaur for years and last month I found out it makes excellent photographs with the right paper. It is great for a $99 machine. But now when I scan it will only let me use the preview button which works and shows the copy on my screen, when I "scan" you can hear the scanner scanning and the scan status window opens and goes from 100% to 0, then the lexmark window sits for 3 seconds with no doc showing and then the whole window closes. It still copies good, but when I try to save, email or edit the docs it scans and closes itself. I've shut off the whole pc overnight, unplugged all electric on and off, and when I remove the usb cable from either the machine or the pc you can hear the pc ding proving the cable is working correct. Any ideas, or time to buy new?

I am a frustrating problem with my computer whenever it is shut down the hard way, like when we have a power failure. When I try to turn it back on, everything powers up right away, like the laser mouse and the monitor, but the cooling fan on the computer kicks in and the DVD and CD drives lights blink like it is doing something as soon as I power up, like it is in the middle of a process and the monitor turns on, but remains black... not a thing comes up on the screen. I end up having to power the computer up and immediately power it down by holding the power button, and I do this over and over again until I can turn the system on without cooling fan kicking on right away. Sometimes it works after the 2nd or 3rd try and sometimes I can repeat this process for 45 minutes until it works. Anybody know why this happens and how I can fix it? This is the ONLY problem I have with the computer.

desktop> right click> display properties> screen saver tab> monitor power button> power schemes> For a home computer, which setting is best? Also, does this setting have anything to do with my monitor screen going black (then I can turn it off, then on again and it comes on for a few seconds- after doing this about 20 times, it finally stays on) ?? hi, im having a problem with my computer monitor. whenevr i turn on the computer, the color RED disappears and turns everything slightly green. there where times when it goes back to normal...how i suppose to troubleshoot that little problem? or can i do it on my own???? well i have known little electronics but the CRT is quite new to me...? can someone give me little suggestion bout that problem?

i have a emachines T3624 desktop computer (p-o-sh btw)
when it is running, it is extremely loud, i can hear it from another floor!. im pretty sure its the fan thats loud. Ive had this problem for the last 2 yrs. i sleep in the same room, and i want to let it run at night while its doing scans and defragmenting and large downloads and things like that, but i sleep in the same room, so i want to make it shutup. someone told me that i need to clean the fan, then it will stop making the sound, but i dont want to open it up because i have no technical capabilities and know nothing about computers. also i dont have time to buy compressed air to clean it with. is there a way to clean it without compressed air? could it be an issue with another computer part? HELP!

I have a 300W PSU in my computer. My new card says minimum of 350W. I only have 2x256MB of ram, athlon 64 3500+ CPU, 80gb HD, 3.5floppy, USB firewire card and one DVD burner in my PC. What would happen if i just plug the card in and see if it works? Would it damage anything because there isnt enough power? Or would the computer just not turn on?

So my question in detail is.. .What do I need to know if I want to upgrade? Will I have to buy a larger power supply? Will I need to install extra fans or some sort of cooling system?
Will my motherboard even support this GFX card model? (I don't know what motherboard I have and don't know how to figure it out)

I'm lost with this technology, and really want to be able to experience DX10 games, and replay games I can no longer play...

I have Windows Vista, I also have the latest version of Yahoo Messenger. I recently bought a headset with mic. so I could chat pc to pc I can't get the mic to work. I know it's hooked up right, the cables are color coded. Is there something else I should do?

Windows XP Home

What should I do? The system worked properly until now.

I had problems coming out of standby so had to force reboot. It prompted me for the system disk and after going to repair with the CD it says:

"Setup did not find any hard disk drives make sure they are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct this may involve running a manufacturer supplied diagnostic or setup program."

"Setup cannot continue. To quit setup press F3"

My computer will not read or write to any of my disc drives.The device manager states that all the drives are working properly,when I try to play a dvd or burn a dvd-r,or cd-r, it say's no disc found! I have tried everything from windows restore to a complete reinstall of windows xp but they still will not work.My computer works fine,except for the fact that none of the cd-rom,dvd-rom drives work.

Hai guys!

I have a big issue.. Probably not that big but its big for me.

Here is my problem. I have this 640mb XFX geforce 8800 GTS XXX Graphics card at factory OC'd @ 600/1500/1900.

I when on load its touching 80 C.

I am a bit concerned about this. I would like to run my PC 24/7. But with this clock speed and Temperature there is no way I am gonna risk frying my Card.

One of my friend suggested that underclocking the card could solve the problem. But unfortunately neither him or I dont know how to underclock a card.

Can I under clock a factory overclocked card using some utility like ATI tool or Riva tuner or similar tool to stock speeds and run for 24/7.

I am not talking about permanent underclocking through BIOS flashing. Just a temperary Underclock so that I could run my system 24/7.

So when I game, I could turn off the software ( ATI Tool, etc) to change back to overclocked speeds.



Is it possible? Or is it just a stupid Idea of me?

Please help guys!

my computer is like 3 years old and it suddenly stoped working, when i turn the computer on the screen does nothing and the computer doesnt sound like it is working right and at first i could smell somthing burning, i am pretty sure it is not the screen, so wat could it be? the fan is working fine, could it be dust or something simple? all ideas welcome
