I have Windows Vista, I also have the latest version of Yahoo Messenger. I recently bought a headset with mic. so I could chat pc to pc I can't get the mic to work. I know it's hooked up right, the cables are color coded. Is there something else I should do?

Your issue is well known for us Vista/yahoo messenger users, hun. Yahoo is supposed to be coming out with a new messenger for vista since Jan but there's still now word on when so for now if you want voice the only thing thats working for most is to go here: http://www.yazakpro.com/chatstuff/yahoo/vistayahoovoicefix.html

Scroll down and install the codec code (takes about 20 secs) then, install the Aug 21 yahoo mess. updated version 8.1.0.416. If you already have yahoo mess on there you dont have to uninstall it just click that link and it will override it. Reboot your pc, and voila! Your good to go. The first time it may take a few secs to start working, but after that your good.

Check the volume mixer at the bottom right of your screen and make sure all slider bars are adjusted properly. If that's not the case, go to:

Control Panel > Sound (should have like a speaker next to it, I forgot, haven't used Vista in a month or so) > And look for a tab relevant to your situation. Like microphones.

Hope this helped a bit.

Check on your audio driver if its installed. Make sure you had also its application installed. It will make an icon appear in your task bar on the bottom right of your window screen. check on its audio properties, explore.

Double click on the icon and it will appear a dialogue box on your speaker configuration you will see Green for your speaker, Blue for line in and pink for your microphone.

Happy testing.
