If you are referring to the quad core, then yes. The only grey area people talk about these days is that he cores are not on a single die, it is kind of like two dual cores under one hood.

Core 2 Extreme and Core 2 Quad both have 4 cores.

The current Core 2 Extreme desktop CPU is a 4-core CPU. The new Core 2 Extreme laptop CPU (which is also used in the new iMac) is a dual-core CPU.

Well, some have 4 cores while others have only 2 cores (but work really good) such as the ones inside the top of the line apple imac. But if you are looking for a desktop processor, you can almost count that it's a quad core CPU.

Core2 Extreme X6800 is a dual core running at 2.93Ghz.

Core 2 Extreme QX6700, QX6800 and QX6850 are ALL QUAD cores.
