However, the design life will be an average, there will definitely be a spread around that.

Edit:
A screen save does absolutely nothing for an LCD. LCDs do not get phosphor burn because there is no phosphor.

If the monitor is on then the backlight is on and you are burning up the hours of it's life.

If you want to prolong an LCD monitor's life, turn it off, or use power management to put it to sleep.

It depends a lot on your luck. I am using an Acer monitor I picked up in a thrift store. Yes, it's LCD (AcerView F51) and from what I can tell, it's built in 1999! It's got 25 ms response time, state of art back then, and backlight still works today. In fact, I'm using it now.

i havent burned one out in 4 years .. . sometimes the lamp or brightness control board goes out in them though and its like anything else i guess .. they generally last until the next generation of hardware comes out and ur ready to upgrade ..

mines been lasting for 3 years now. it still is pretty good. make sure you turn on screen saver to prevent lcd burn.
