I've just bought a Western Digital 80GB Passport V2 External USB 2.0 2.5" Hard Drive from Amazon.

I'm a bit disappointed in the file transferring speed, so I was considering Firewire instead of USB 2.0. The product specs on Amazon doesn't mention anything about firewire: http://tinyurl.com/2dlvrq

And do all external hard drives support firewire?

Thanks.

I recently looked into my computer and there are some residues on my sound/video card and other places that are obviously dust/dirt related in nature, but dusting alone (with cloth or air) won't remove it. Is there a solution of any kind that is safe to use and will work? Thanks!

I can't decide what to get. Will Vista run fine with these specs?
Is Vista even stable?
Or should I get Vista, and hope the system runs fine?
Here's the basic specs:
Intel Core Duo Processor 1.66 GHZ
1 GB RAM
Integrated Graphics

I figured those were the only things that would truly affect performance. So will this laptop run Vista smoothly?
Or should I get the XP one?

I'm thinking of getting a portable laptop for myself. MacBook black version with 2GHZ Core 2 Duo and 2GHZ Memory option seems nice..and the bootcamp, dual booting capability.

Can anyone tell me about the vista performance on Macbook compare to the traditional intel base notebook on same spec. Can i expect the same performance or lower than the laptops like HP, or Dell....in the same specification.......

If the performance is about the same, I'gonna get myself a MacBook......

I'm going to be purchasing a Sony VGN FE890 laptop, and I have to choose between getting a 120gb hdd (5400rpm) or a 160gb hdd (4200rpm). I was thinking about choosing the smallest hard drive option (60 gb) and just buying a 160gb (5400rpm)hard drive separate. It would cost $20 more to do it this way, but it might be worth it. I don't know if I can just put all of the info on the laptop that comes with it on rescue cd's and just transport it to the new hard drive (as if i were restoring the laptop) can I? Does this sound smart (so i can get the best of both worlds) , size & speed?

I am looking to replace a server power cord with the one in the above link. The one currently being used is also a 16AWG but of longer length (maybe 2 or 3 times longer).

Thanks.

what could be the problem? I was doing some work on my pc and saving data from the internet, i was already going on about an hour and the half and suddenly the screen just went blank and its light flickered. I tried switching it off and then switching on again but nothing appeared on the screen and the light still flickered.

p/s: The monitor is kinda old, haven't been used for some time and only recently we started to used it again.

I sort of took up a nomadic life & I can't keep hauling a desktop around. It's nuts. I need a good, tough, cheap notebook.
I watch movies sometimes, so a 15.4" screen is a good idea. Also, I take billions of digital photos, & am crazy about mix tapes. I might want to play some games sometime (I played Resident Evil the other day & nearly peed my pants, so I kind of want a scary game now).
I think it's ok if I only have 80g - it makes me nervous to have everything all in one place & I don't mind a few USB drives. I hear good things about Toshiba, bad things about Dell, and can't afford a Mac. I don't want to spend a ton of money - maybe around $700USD. More or less is negotiable, but things change so fast it seems senseless to invest too much. I mean, none of them seem built to last, no matter how much I pay. What about processors, drivers, that sort of thing? What am I looking for?
Please answer thoroughly, w/ specific examples and links to recommended models if possible. Thx!

its a 4200 RPM seagate 40 GB PATA 2.5" hard disk. its in operation from december 2005. HDDlife program shows me the cumulative uptime of this disk till date is 3144 hours. considering these factors, can i rely on it without much worry? of course i know that for hard disks its more difficult to predict failure, but there still is some fixed probability of something happening based on past averages and ideal MTBF. considering my hard disk's age and uptime, whats the risk- very low, low, moderate, high or very high?

Windows is offering validated customers a free upgrade to Windows Vista. I'm wondering if I should upgrade to the new platform? I've heard there can be problems if your PC doesn't have the necessary specs. My PC has a 1.7 ghz hard drive (Pentium M), 1 gb of ram, and 80 gb of storage. Is that enough for me to upgrade? Also, will my current programs work with Vista? Or will those have to be upgraded as well? Thanks!
