I've just bought a Western Digital 80GB Passport V2 External USB 2.0 2.5" Hard Drive from Amazon.

I'm a bit disappointed in the file transferring speed, so I was considering Firewire instead of USB 2.0. The product specs on Amazon doesn't mention anything about firewire: http://tinyurl.com/2dlvrq

And do all external hard drives support firewire?

Thanks.

No.
Make sure your PC has USB 2.0 .... & not 1.1 or 1.0 .... that may be the reason for such slow performance.

Gee, not sure how the pc will elect Firewire, granted that's quicker than USB, yet working a sport by using it? that must be interesting. eSATA may well be referable in case you rather ought to do it this form, yet i'm assuming this is going to possibly no longer be obtainable. in case you have an iMac you're probably caught, yet once you have a Mac professional you ought to purely deploy a secondary internalcontinual which would be connected by using SATA. that must be perfect.

Yes! Some will have either or both connections. Even custom-built enclosure cases have either or both too.

USB 2.0 speeds is rated up to 480mbs
Firewire is rated upto 400mbs
USB 1.1 is rated 11mbs
USB 1.0 is rated 10mbs

no they don't. You can use a converter (usb to firewire) but it won't be faster.
