Hardware - February 2007

I don't know much about a computer. I do know I have not downloaded many programs. The desktop has DSL but is so slow it takes so much time to do anything. Sometimes it just freezes and I have to unplug it. I have an antivirus connected. What I have just said is all I know about a computer. Can anyone help me using easy terms? Thank you so much.

I have a laptop with a Core Duo processor. When I right click My Computer and look at properties it says T2050 @ 1.60 GHz 1.60 GHz. What does this mean? Does it mean the processor is essentially running at 3.6 GHz? If no, then what? What is the T2050? Also I have two laptops, one with Core Duo and one with Centrino Duo. Which of these is better technically speaking?

One person tells me with a Flatscreen it can be kind of jerky when playing a movie. Another tells me the CRT is the still the best. What's a girl to do? LOL..

There was a bit of a mess and it got knocked off the table. It's one of the flat white ones, it tipped over backwards and landed on the floor, knocking out the power cord. Now when I try to turn it on, the front light blinks and it gives three loud beeps, and the fan runs loudly. Did I completely ruin it?

Due to a corrupt hard drive, I attempted to install a new hard drive. I tried to follow the instructions that came with it, but, when I shut down and tried to restart, it came up 'black'. Now, that's all I get. I even tried to re-install the old 'drive' . Nothing.
Is there a web site I can visit that will be able to help? Or is it a lost cause?

now it has a 305w power supply and the cooling system is a processor heat sync w/ fan and the fan on the power supply. the 7600 gt is going to be a after purchase card (does not come with the pc. the card that comes with the pc (geforce6150LE) is integrated into the computer, and has a fan of its own. it wont be used, but will still be in there. first question is: is this setup good for gaming? not extreme gaming over servers, etc but good enough for 1 person to play FEAR, HL2, Flight sim X kind of games. second question is: will everything work well together (not familiar with building pc's) graphics card work with motherboard, processor work with graphics card, etc. Third:

I will be purchasing a new laptop soon, and I have several programs installed on my desktop that I want to transfer to my new laptop without having to install of the programs over again to the new laptop.

Does a USB flash drive allow you to do this? I'm not sure if it does because you have to INSTALL programs on computers...so are programs able to be installed onto another computer with a flash drive or not?

I just recently installed Windows Vista on my Hp pc that i bought a few months back for quite alot: about 1800 BUCKS. Well after installing Vista i encountered many bugs and problems and did not want it so now i am trying to renistall Xp but i do not know how. I do not have the Windows Xp cd, my pc did not come with it so usually if i had a problem i could have used system recovery to renistall windows Xp but it wont work with Vista. Also i have created a partition before installing Vista but it had deleted everything including my Xp files on another partition . So when i used System recovery it put all the files of Xp back to the second partition and i do not how to boot into them. What to do now?
