Would a sata drive be faster than a ide if I had to go through a pci interface for the sata?

My board now does not support SATA, but I have a SATA drive laying here. It's a Dell dimension 2400.

Yes, it will still be faster but only for the SATA I drives (ie 1.5 Gigabit drives). PCI will only do a max transfer speed in a burst rate of 1.5 gigabits per second. IDE only support 100 megabit athrough ATA 100 interface.
