No. You must re-install the programs. Files can indeed be transferred via USB flash drive, CD, DVD, or floppy disk (that is if you even have those around still). If you're worried because you lost the instillation DVD, you can contact the company and they will either mail you a new one, or offer to let you download it from the Internet, however, you will have to prove that one of their programs was registered to you to begin with. To do that, open the program in question, and go to "about _____" (insert program name there). A box should pop up that says the name it was registered to, and should have a little button to show you the serial number. When you contact the company to get the new DVD or whatever, you will have to reference all that info. It helps to have an idea of when you purchased and registered your program. Good luck!!

It depends on the size of the flash drive and the size of the programs you want to transfer. If you have a 2 GB flash drive, you can transfer 2 GB of space from the flash drive to your new computer at the same time. All a flash drive is, is RAM that us used as a disk connected via a USB port.
RAM can be used as a hard drive. RAM is actually much faster. The reason we use Hard Drives is because RAM is expensive and spinning metal disks holding information is much cheaper and doesn't need the speed RAM gives. The information on RAM needs to be fast.
But as long as the information you want to transfer is <= the size of the flash drive, you can.

No, that won't work. Most programs today have a bunch of files scattered all over the machine. They are in system folders and others. In addition, in order to get the correct registry entries, you have to do an install from scratch.
SO, if you are getting a machine with Vista, there is a good chance you can transfer some or all of them with the Transfer Utility.
I wish you luck with that.

By flash drive I'm guessing you mean jump drive. And the answer is yes it will be able to transfer. Just make sure to format it before transferring. An external hard drive could work too if you have a lot of programs to transfer

You can use the USB flash drive to transfer the installation files and associated personal files but you will have to install it again on the new pc/laptop.

Yes that should be fine. All depending on how big the files are and how much storage your usb has.
You must transfer the .exe files over though. Say if you downloaded Limewire and saved it to a certain location, then you must take the file you saved onto your usb and transfer that over.
You cannot just save your programmes as they are and just pass them over though. You'll probably have to start a fresh install of said programmes onto your new comp.

Hi. Some programs have the install program included, usually as "setup.exe' or similar. If you copy all the files from machine 1 to machine 2 in a similar folder, then you can probably do it.

if the installation file will fit on the USB drive, then sure you can copy the file to the laptop and install it there. however, with most programs today you can not just 'copy/paste' the files and folders for it to run properly.

There are softwares out there which you can purchase that will allow you to move programs from one computer to another.
But it doesn't work with all programs and the cost of the software is probably about the same cost to buy a new copy.
