I want a laptop for Chrsitmas and dont know what kind to get. My parents arent too sure either. What kind would be best for me?

Im 13, and really want my own computer
I have to type a lot of school projects
I like to surf the webs and use the AOL instant messsenger
And I like to type up stories of my own
I listen to music on the pc a lot

Does anyone have an idea of what laptop would be best for me?

Do you have experience witha great laptop that will satisfy my needs and doesnt cost a fortune?

OK Gang,

I turned on my computer yesterday, an really old clunker, but it gets the job done. Anyway, all of a sudden there was this pretty loud noise coming from the back of the tower. So, I tilted the tower and it was coming from the fan. So, I turned off the computer, and restarted it two more times with the same results. So, I guess this means I have to replace my fan, right?

i deleted the hard drive reinstalled everything yet no sound
on device managers the soundmaxintergrated audio isnt working cant be updated UGH! where can i get a new driver! or something!

After downloaded a software from the Internet from a trusted website, my HP laptop is not working. I can see the icons, when you click on it, nothing happened. I called the HP support and a Rep worked with me more than 2 hours and we still couldn't get it fixed. Anybody has any idea? I have saved all my digital pictures in My Document. Need to retrieve them.

I called the company which I downladed software from and they told me that they have never had this problem and I know another friend also has downloaded without problem.

i was using my computer one day,and all of a sudden my screen went black.so i switched to my onboard grafix and it worked again.but when i went to go online my wireless card didnt work either.i have tried all the slots and nothing worked..i tried an old agp grafix card and that worked..what would cause my pci slots to quit?.......its a brand new motherboard...i would give more info but not sure really what to say other than my pci slots jsut stopped..

My son has an xbox360 which he has tried to get on the network to no avail. He has set the automatic feature and the xbox comes back with the linksys' router address, but it can't find an ip address. Same thing with a mac powermac that I have. The two winslows machines are ok. I have tried powering down the router and modem....to no avail. I've been steered toward a firmware update for my Linksys N router, but nothing seems to work. I cannot get the mac to share files with the winslows machines. At least with xp, there's an add a network place, start a home or business network' option, which the mac doesn't have. The mac has just about everything you could want, mail, safari, for browsing, iphoto for photo manipulation qand printing.

I bought my son a wireless network adaptor for xmas but I don't know if that will work or not. I know he has to plug in directly to the modem, bypassing or leaving out the router, to get on with an ethernet cable.

Anyone else experiencing this?
