Easiest thing to do is get certain cable. One end has headphone styple plug and other end has RCA plug. Really easy, just make sure it's long enough for what you want to do.

In most cases you need a Stereo Mini Plug to Dual RCA cable.

Usually a laptop has a mini-phone plug output, but most stereos have RCA connections. You can get adapters at Radio Shack.

The safest and best thing to do is:
Make sure of what connections are available on your stereo, then take your laptop to best buy and ask the Geek Squad to help you select the cable(s) you need.

Good luck
