With Windows XP hold down your CTRL, ALT, and Delete buttons at the same time. Your task manager box will pop up. Click on "Performance". Under the two graph bars you will see "Physical Memory". The numbers will be moving around a little bit showing how much memory you are currently using.
OR
go to system info from start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system inforamtion. click the general tab and then near the bottom is the "total physical memory" which is the amount of RAM you have, (this is on windows XP)

Ram is what the computer stores data in while running. To see what you have right click on my computer and select properties.
If you want to find out what you have in more detail go to www.crucial.com and run the system scan, it will tell you what you have and what you can upgrade your PC to
