Hardware - December 2006

Periodically the bios settings will change causing my computer not to boot into windows. I have to reset the settings to get it to boot correctly. I think it may be my psu (700W) and my mobo calls for a minimum of 750W for the setup I'm running. Could that be the problem? If needed my specs are:
Mobo: EVGA 680i
GPU: nvidia geforce 8800gts
Cpu: core 2 duo e6700

My laptop was working fine then one day I got a blue when I turned on the computer. It says that a registry hive is missing and windows can not boot. I get the a similar message if I boot in safe mode. My laptop's cd drive doesn't work plus I don't have a windows instalation cd to install from. What can I do? Please help

got £300 to spend on a graphics card, pci-x, thinking in the 8800gtx bracket but its a little above my price range, ive looked in to this for few weeks now and checked toms h/w guide but some reall people recommendations wouldnt go amiss, this is for self built system that im just getting off the ground.

This is very frustrating, half of my programs wont run anymore
and it is slow as all hell.

also How can I fix this (mind you going on-line is sorta out the question cuz my PC dont go on-line anymore ever since)

I bought a wii sd card for about 60 bucks, My computer does not have an sd drive, and my cell phone and digital camera are also old and do not use sd cards. I was looking on RadioShack for a cheap sd/usb adapter that way I can insert an sd card into my usb drive.. here is what I found:

These are the specifications on my Toshiba Satellite M35X laptop computer. The only sound input is the microphone jack. Can I assume that it is mono and not stereo? How can I tell? I have not purchased a microphone yet. Note: Even though it indicates "Built-in microphone" my model only has a jack, no microphone.

Lately my eMac continues to freeze whenever I do something out of the blue it just freeze and I have to restart it, sometime when it restarts it freeze as well. It never did this before what is wrong with it? Have any idea how to fix it??

I have toshiba laptop, everytime we leave the computer on and after some idle time it will try to go in stand by mode and freeze up, when i try to do any thing it will give me a blue screen. i have windows xp home edition on this machine, any help will be appreciated.

I have a laptop with a celeron 1.6ghz processor, I have just upgraded the ram to 1 gig, done wonders for me, but I would like to upgrade the processor. The highest one compatible with the chipset is the celeron m 2ghz at £80. I use the laptop for music production and I need all the power I can get, but is it really worth upgrading by 600mhz?

I tried out a new flash drive in my computer that I got for my birthday recently. It did not work. Before I tried it, my printer was responding. Now, my computer cannot find my HP printer. It can find the Lexmark; but the Lexmark is missing the connector from the printer to the plug. Do I have to install the HP printer again? Also, the computer technician bought something that has four additional ports. When he had it hooked up to the modem, there was a blue light on all the time. Where I am living now, I do not have internet access at home yet.However, I should still be able to use the ports for my printer and anything else that cannot fit into the ports at the back of my computer.My main question is if I did something wrong when I plugged in the flash drive and why the blue light for the extra ports wouldn't come on.Why is my printer not printing now even though it was printing before I plugged in the flash drive? Please help me.

Ok I recently bought a 19" wide screen samsung monitor. I was told it would have no effect on games.
Well after about half hour of screwing with it I finally got BF2 to boot. Its looks ok. I started Red orchesta and it is messed up! it cuts off half the screen! There are no options in the monitor to adjust this.
So basically my question is, is there any programs that will help with this crap. Also is there anyway to fix the horrible color. And do games have to support widescreen in order for them to work?

my pc model is 7330gz, it's a gateway notebook...the game requirements say that it has to have a video card and sound card that are compatible with direct x3d and direct x 9.... i called gateway support and they said that it isnt compatible....what should i do? is there any way around this?

The Nec Dvd+Rw ND-3530A keeps asking me to insert blank disc into drive.The burning software used is Sonic Digital Media LEV 7.Could it be that the drive has failed or there is a problem with the software.Many thanks if you could help.

I got a Cruzer flashdrive 1GB recently for my birthday. The instructions that came with it said that all you need to do is plug it in. There is also something about U3 which I do not understand. Anyhow, the bottomline is that it will not work in my computer nor in the secretary's computer. She showed me how to plug it in by using her own as an example. On My Computer, a drive shows up. But when I plug my own in ,no drive shows up on my computer nor her own.it makes a noise when it is plugged in or unplugged. We are using Windows XP and a Dell with Intel Pentium 4 and tried it in different ports. I contacted SanDisk to register it and explain my problem but got no answer or acknowledgement yet.. Do you think it is defective or is it something that can be fixed easily? My niece paid a small fortune for it; and I have thrown away the plastic wrapping although I have the box with the serial number and bar code number. Please help.

I have a 2 GB sandisk card that will not format. I it was working fine for about 3 days, and then it just sent corrupt. Is there a program that force formats SD cards? WIndows will not format it. I tried it already!
