I need to extract some (to be generated by a program) files to a CD?
Is there any trick to gaining access to the internal workings? I removed a lot of screws but it didn't want to give up its charm and I didn't want to force it.

The point that some are missing is that I need to compile a data.cab file and then offload it onto CD. The file does not yet exist on the laptop waiting to be transferred. I have to run a routine first, and that is why I need the drive up and running on some pc or laptop..

Probably, but NOT LIKELY.

Desktop PCs have different hard disk mounts, which are designed for pc desktop harddrives only.

Laptop harddrives are much smaller in dimension and specially-made mounting adapters have to be fabricated to use these small drives.

Also, the ribbon wire connectors of laptop harddrives are NOT COMPATIBLE with the ribbon wire connectors of desktop pc's ... not only in terms of actual ribbon wire & connector sizes, but also with regards to the ribbon wire pin assignments.

BETTER to us one of the available File-Transfer Software.

from what i understand you are tring to get filles off a laptop onto a cd but the laptop itself has no burning capablilaties. based upon the tipe of laptop you have it depends how easy it it to take it off, in trutht there is an adapter that can do it, ither a usb one or a ribon one but ultamitly thats what yo will need. in trth you are making this really hard. good luck

Only if you got an adapter, as the connectors are different.
You could get an external case for it and connect via USB2

Yes...
You just need an adapter... they are very cheap.
Look on ebay for 2.5 to IDE adapter or something alike ..

Here is one
