jbtascam what i meant was if you take a picture of the whole screen then the part you want 2 take the picture of is smaller therefore you have to make it bigger causing loss of detail, whcih wouldn't happen if you just took a screenshot of the smaller part of the screen in the first place
at least that's what happens on my computer

To get just one window in the screen shot...do this:
Hit Alt + Prnt Scrn and you will capture only the current window!

Taking the full screen shot and cropping it always produces the best results - if not the most convenient.
Full Screen shots are always taken at the current resolution of the screen, so "cropping" it won't "lose detail."
Blowing it up (making the portion you want bigger) will cause "pixellation," which is NOT the same thing.
Even if you found a piece of software (and probably could : google "screen capture software free" ) - you would still have your "loss of detail," because it sounds like you're trying to make a digital image bigger.

The alt+Print Screen is the best system suggestion;
however, if you need a screen snap that covers an active windows and part of the main screen, the best option in the Pay for Category is SNAG IT. However, if you are not up for an outlay of a bunch of moola, then search for CAM STUDIO, and/or AVI SCREEN CLASSIC Freeware; CAM STUDIO is the best, but AVI SCREEN CLASSIC does still shots better, somewhat. You can resize in these apps. Unless you have a copy of PHOTOED from Windows 95, thats a cool app that still works well on all windows since then.

While holding the 'Alt' key hit the 'Print Screen' key. This will only take a snapshot of the active window.

Print Screen & paste into something for the whole screen.
Alt+ Print Screen & paste into something for just the active window.
Meant to add, try MW Snap : http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/mwsnap.html

Well you'll probably find this a little tricky, since you can't adjust the screen shot resolution. Just use some photo/image software ans see what you can do

Use Faststone Capture - it's free and even comes as a standalone .exe file which you can use without installation or on an usb flash drive
