I have a laptop with a celeron 1.6ghz processor, I have just upgraded the ram to 1 gig, done wonders for me, but I would like to upgrade the processor. The highest one compatible with the chipset is the celeron m 2ghz at £80. I use the laptop for music production and I need all the power I can get, but is it really worth upgrading by 600mhz?

NO! Its definitely not worth upgrading your processor.

In reality, memory access speeds are very very low compared to processing speeds. Even though you upgrade your processor, your laptop performance will still be limited by slow memory speed. So you will hardly notice any difference. It'll be a waste of money, if you ask me.

Nah, you most likely won't see any appreciable difference.

I wouldn't spend any more money on a Celeron processor, either. Save those bucks for a Core 2 Duo (or the mobile CPU equivalent). Even the fastest Celeron processor can't hold a candle to a Core 2 Duo -- or even to a Pentium D, for that matter.

In my opinion no. You have the memory in place and this is worth much more than a 0.4ghz change! If you were able to upgrade higher then I would say yes, but as it is I wouldn't bother.

How come you don't use a desktop for something like music production? Surely you can get better power from a desktop than a laptop?

Just go for the dual processor my friend, or better still check out ebay. If you are really clever you can buy a decent pc for around 80 pounds now. I bought a 2.6g dell that was only 2 years old for 77 pound last week, I love eBay!

I would upgrade the CPU, i've done the same thing to several laptops and you will notice the difference. another thing you can do is upgrade your hard drive to newer, faster and larger model.

If it was me i would seriously look to overclocking the prossesor
That way you will only need to replace the CPU fan

It will yield only a trivial improvement, would not spend the money.
