Are you looking to build a really smoking gaming rig? Or just a regular computer that you might play some games on from time to time. If it's the second, buy something like a 7600GT. You can always add a second one in SLI later if you want to boost your performance.

Personally, I prefer to have 2 less powerful video cards in SLI than one really high end one. You'll spend less, have an extra set of outputs if you ever want to have multiple monitors, and have redundancy if something ever dies. Also, the heat dissipation is better since there are two sets of HS/fans.

Look at older prices of the other GTX models and look for a common price scale. They have been releasing their latest model about ever 6 months and lowering the price of thier previous model. My guess is that for ever 6 months you wait, you will be saving 50 pounds. The graphic card gain in performance every 6 months has been less that 15%. If you have the right motherboard, you can string at least two cards in SLI mode which will drastically increase your performance. Also note that your computer will probably be out dated on the top of the line games in about 5 years. Look at the GeForce 7950 GT 512mb. Then when the new games start to bog down get another one (they have to be the same for SLI) when it's cheaper. Then When the new games start to bog down again, it's probably time to get another computer anyways.

No need to spend too much money on video card. It will be a piece of junk as soon as new shaders and such appear. I've got a 7900GS and it's AWESOME!!! Playing BF 2142 on max video settings. If you have 2 pci-x16 ports and NVidia Chipset, get an sli card
