I tried out a new flash drive in my computer that I got for my birthday recently. It did not work. Before I tried it, my printer was responding. Now, my computer cannot find my HP printer. It can find the Lexmark; but the Lexmark is missing the connector from the printer to the plug. Do I have to install the HP printer again? Also, the computer technician bought something that has four additional ports. When he had it hooked up to the modem, there was a blue light on all the time. Where I am living now, I do not have internet access at home yet. However, I should still be able to use the ports for my printer and anything else that cannot fit into the ports at the back of my computer. My main question is if I did something wrong when I plugged in the flash drive and why the blue light for the extra ports wouldn't come on.Why is my printer not printing now even though it was printing before I plugged in the flash drive? Please help me.

I know this is a strange question but....is the USB hub plugged in to an available USB port on your computer(and not in to itself)? Were you using external power on the USB hub(plugging it in to an outlet)??? If you were using external power is it plugged in now? The blue light should come on when you plug the cable in to your computer USB port if it isn't you either don't have it plugged in correctly or the hub needs replaced. I wouldn't replace anything until you have tested the usb hub on another comp though. Once the hub is powered up(blue light on) you should be able to plug and unplug any device that you have installed and they should operate. Good Luck

Remove the USB hub(the device with the blue light) from your system and try the plugging the printer and flash drive directly into the USB port on the computer. If this works, the problem lies with the USB hub. Check that the power adapter for the hub is plugged in as many devices will not work on an unpowered hub.

If not, right click on My Computer -> properties -> hardware -> device manager and expand the section for Universal Serial Bus controllers. If there is an error here, you will need to reload the USB drivers.

These "ports" you are talking about are USB ports. They should be "Plug and Play" meaning you plug something in, and windows should recognize it and install the drivers needed to run it.

If Windows isn't recognizing MULTIPLE USB devices, then you've probably got problems with Windows. You may want to consult with your computer support specialist further.
