Sounds like the FAN on the heatsink (cpu) may be out. Check it and if necessary and you have a Desktop computer, put a small fan up to the holes on the side of the panel and run it to see if it helps. If it does, it is the fan. Just replace the fan on the heat-sink (usually less than $20.) Good luck.

If you can get a copy of Smart Computing Magazine January 2007 issue, the main article is about this very subject.

If the computer displays an error message, write this down so that you can google it to find out what might be making it restart.

Often, if a computer simply shuts off, it may be because the internal components are getting to hot. It's a safety messure. If you are comfortable going into the case, open it and make sure the fans are working correctly. BE CAREFUL TO GROUND YOURSELF BEFORE TOUCHING ANY INTERNAL COMPONENTS! STATIC ELECTRICITY CAN RUIN YOUR COMPUTER!

If you have recently installed any new software, try using the System Restore option if you are running Windows XP or 2000.

If your have recently installed new hardware, there may be a problem with the driver. Visit the manufacturer's web site to obtain the latest driver updates.

2 things that will surely help.

1. it maybe your power supply that's malfunctioning such that it restarts every after 5-10 mins..
2. it may also be your memory. i've experience that a year ago and it turns out it's a factory damaged memory.

if all these fails, your last resort would be reformatting your PC.
if none work, go to your manufacturer.

Besides the cpu fan make sure your power supply fan is also working properly. Hold you hand to the back of the computer and make sure it is on or staying on. Also maybe take of panel from computer and blow it out with a can of air. Disconnect and take outside to do this.

It is a computer virus, probably W32/IRCbot.worm is new and I think the only option you have is to get software like McAfee (they already have the cure).

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

It has a virus and/or bug. If you don't know how to remove them I would find someone who does. It's probably not that big of a problem.
