Try this first: Click on start---> Control Panel ----> Add Hardware.
A wizard should come up.. follow that and see what it says. If that doesn't work, try this:

Start--->Control Panel ----> Sounds and Audio Devices.
Then click on the tab that says "audio." Where it says, "Sound playback" it'll say, "default device:" click on that, and select whichever option it is that you have your speakers plugged into.

On my computer, the speakers go into a green plug in in the front, others in the back. Experiament with it. AND DON'T FORGET TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR VOLUME IS ON.

Check to see if you have it muted from the actual control settings. Go into control panel, find the sound controls, then check and see if the volume is muted. If not, click on the test to have it check and test your sound. If it says it working properly, then part of your sound program might be missing or damaged. Just reinstall it with the Sound Max driver that came with your pc you should have the option to either repair or reinstall it. Try to repair first to see if that works. If not, then just do a full reinstall it.

You might need to install drivers. If you have a CD use that, otherwise go to the computer manufacturers website and download from there. Just go to the update driver part.

you probably have to reinstall the sound driver. put in your windows xp cd (or whatever os system cd you have for your computer). choose "install additional components". click the accessories box, and then it will automatically install it.

You don't have a sound card or a multimedia card. You are going to need one to get sound.
