Laptop win xp

If we put a music cd into the drive, we get no sound. Her sound is working. We get sound on the i\Internet. She has both Media player and Dell's Musicmatch but neither of them seem to work. Music match does not open when we click on it. Media player opens but even though it says "Now Playing at the top" we get no sound. Also the play, pause, fast forward, back and stop buttons in the player are all greyed out so they are not usable. Can anything be done about this without taking the computer into the shop. Thanks for your suggestions.

can anyone help me? I only have 1 usb port on my computer, my mouse has a usb connection but when i plug it into a usb 4 port hub it does'nt work. There is no fault with the hub as my printer and scanner work when plugged in. I have got the correct drivers installed for the mouse.

I wiped out my Hard Drive using Active@ KILLDISK now it says no Operating System found. I wanted to load a clean copy of Windows XP, but the PC does not seem to read the XP disc even though I have the PC booting to the cd-rom first. I keep getting the message that no operating system found. How do I load XP ? Please note I have the full XP disc not the upgrade disc.

If I get these specs w/ vista and turn down all the graphics such as turning into a a classical theme, etc. Will I be able to run it fast as XP for programming.

Well, I got a new computer. On the box, it said it has 512 MBs of RAM. But, for some odd reason, when I went to Control Panel>System>General, it said I only had 300-and-something MBs. Is this normal? Was there just a mistake? Did they give me the wrong comp? lol... Any help is appreciated.

i have 3.5 ghz celron processor, 512 mb ddr ram and realtek on board soundcard. and ati raidon express graphics and a ge force fx5500 graphics card. it is really choppy when i play mp3 movies or any media. i tried changeing programs with no luck. media player, winamp and rahospdy is all choppy.

AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3000+2.10 GHz, 448 MB of RAM, i'm not 100% sure about the memory at the moment. i can tell you it is and hp pavilion a610n and the monitor is 17" flat pannel and screen model f1703. 3 usb ports, compact flash, smart media / xD, mmc / SD, MS / MS PRO,and somen other stuff i have 2 mouses, and 2 keyboards. the speakers and everything work like new. i have a dsl modem and a printer i can include, i honestly no longer have use for a computer i'll be traveling for awhile and a desktop dosent work for me.

My computers spooler service won't start. When I try reinstall the printer it asks if I would like to restart the service. I click yes and it closes the installation and dosent restart it, this happens every time. I also cant restart it through the command prompt. Niether can i print things. I use Windows Xp Home and a Lexmark All in One X3350. I am hoping this can be fixed without reinstalling the computer.

This all started because I wanted to play Half Life 2 (well Day of Defeat anyway) and I kept getting a blue screen of death hinting that my display driver wasn't up to date enough, while following the Nvidia website's tip for updating it, I've deleted the old driver and now I seem in real trouble, can anyone help?!

My brother got an LCD TV and hooked up the PC to the TV (which has a VGA input). His video card is an old Radeon 7000 but it has 2 outputs (DVI and VGA). We put the computer monitor on the VGA and the TV on the dvi with a dvi-to-vga adapter.

The computer is working fine, but the problem is with the TV. It seems to act as an extension of the computer monitor. What I mean is, if I put the mouse cursor in the middle of the computer monitor, it won't show up on the TV. But if I move the cursor all the way to the right, it will show up on the TV. The TV shows the desktop wallpaper, but it doesn't show the start bar or icons. The right-click menu also works on the TV.

Is there anything I can do to make what's on the computer screen match the TV screen?

I have a Toshiba A65-126 that is about 2 yrs old. THis was before the "wide screens" came out. I notice these machines have a sharper/ finer graphics resolution, but not a really larger screen than mine.I have checked with Toshiba without results. Do these wide screens just have a different graphics card or driver; which would mean I cant really change mine; or what? Is there another answer for the machine or am I stuck with what I've got?

I seriously do not get this, but here is the dilemma.

I recently reinstalled windows xp on my PC. I removed any bogus data, until I had the basics on the system (i.e. Nero, Belkin, etc.)

The stuff on my system totals up to about 3.94GB, according to when I highlight every single file, including hidden and system file, and diskSpace explorer.

Here's the problem. When I right click C drive, it says 7.48GB is being used.

What is the deal?

(Oh, my Disk Partition is 33GB. I am attempting to clone the disk, therefore minimalising space)

I got a new pc from my dads company, and ever since I started using it, this message shows up:

"M:\pc\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location."

This is so freaking annoying, because it won't allow me to download programs that doesn't ask you to put shortcuts! I need some help - QUICKLY! Thanks.

We've always used PC'S so this is a new territory for us. The manual doesn't seem to help in this situation. Anyone out there have one who could give us some advice? I have a western digital usb external hard drive full of music and stuff that was hooked up to my pc windows laptop. Can I just plug it into the macbook usb and have it read the songs. Or do I have to convert files, format the ext hd or something else?

i am looking at macs to replace my pc. i do a lot of video work , mainly travel and holidays.with a pc i am advised to go for one with a second hard drive ,to edit my work.
i note that with macs they dont seem to have this as an extra.
i would like to know which mac would be suitable for my needs.
