I seriously do not get this, but here is the dilemma.

I recently reinstalled windows xp on my PC. I removed any bogus data, until I had the basics on the system (i.e. Nero, Belkin, etc.)

The stuff on my system totals up to about 3.94GB, according to when I highlight every single file, including hidden and system file, and diskSpace explorer.

Here's the problem. When I right click C drive, it says 7.48GB is being used.

What is the deal?

(Oh, my Disk Partition is 33GB. I am attempting to clone the disk, therefore minimalising space)

you say you made sure of knowing every hidden and system file .. does that include virtual memory files? if yes then try checking your drivr for errors using just windows simple disk scan .. most of the time thats just the problem a glitch that simple scan fixs if not tey viruse scan cause you could have a virus that is reserving virtual space .. even if you just installed windows you could'v had it already on another partition and it jumped back in windows drive or somtimes .. some viruses don't get deleted untill you actually quick-formate your infected drive .. but i'm sure it won't reach that far ....

Humm , you cant be highlighting everything...

Windows reserves space for its swap file so even though you may have lets say 4gb of files and a swap spaces of 1gb allocated , it will probably say you are using 5gb

System Restore is using the rest. You can turn it off since it's almost never any good for anything.
