If we put a music cd into the drive, we get no sound. Her sound is working. We get sound on the i\Internet. She has both Media player and Dell's Musicmatch but neither of them seem to work. Music match does not open when we click on it. Media player opens but even though it says "Now Playing at the top" we get no sound. Also the play, pause, fast forward, back and stop buttons in the player are all greyed out so they are not usable. Can anything be done about this without taking the computer into the shop. Thanks for your suggestions.

There is a small cable that goes from the back of the CD rom, to either your sound card or motherboard. Is it connected?

Sounds like you may have lost some files from your player,if you have been connected to music match, I would suspect a virus. Get a good virus scan and a Trojan remover.
