I wiped out my Hard Drive using Active@ KILLDISK now it says no Operating System found. I wanted to load a clean copy of Windows XP, but the PC does not seem to read the XP disc even though I have the PC booting to the cd-rom first. I keep getting the message that no operating system found. How do I load XP ? Please note I have the full XP disc not the upgrade disc.

Please note it never indicates to press any button to load the CD. I just get a message that there is no operating system.

When I ran the HD clean up it was from a bootable CD, so I know the laptop is able to read a CD when booting. Prior to wiping out the HD, I at least got a message that told me to press any key to load the cd (I just never got any response when pressing a key). After I wiped out the HD, the only message I get is "No Operating system found".

Start your PC with the XP disc in,
IMMEDIATELY on power on hit F1 or F2 (whichever takes you to BIOS) and change your boot device order --make your CD-ROM drive the first boot device. Hit F10 to "Save and Exit" ...select "Yes".
you may have to shut down pc completely then power on, it should work..if not, at initial startup, hit F10 and this should take you to the options to make your CD-ROM your initial Boot Device.
LAST AND MOST ANNOYING POSSIBILITY(if you can't access you system's BIOS Setup Utility)......when you used that program, well.....let's just say from the sequence you described, that program not only erased it but it probaly made it completely unformatted and unpartitioned.(simply just NOTHING) if you can't access BIOS, get out your Floppy's and make a gallon of Kool-Aid. you will need to use a startup disk (CD or FLoppy-if you can't get to boot from CD or set it to do so.) most likely Floppy, you need a MS-DOS Startup Disk so that you can boot to the command prompt. if "fdisk.exe" is anywhere to be found, run it. Otherwise you will need to run it from the disk or another disk...
I have to jet....I hope this kinda helps in terms of the areas of information used for solving an issue like this. If not, the search:

You should try to clean the cd. Use your hands, warm water and non abrasive soap, lather, rinse ... when you are done pat the cd dry with a lint free cloth... With most newer computers you should have an option to select a bootable disk usually by pressing an F button such as f10, if it does great. Select the boot menu and choose the drive which has your XP disk in it, press enter to select and boot the drive. Otherwise ensure the cd-rom is set to boot first in the computers bios. If all of the above fails your next step should be to try another cd-rom drive. Hope this helps

Since your laptop's hard drive is now totally empty (after wiping out all files), there's no other way that you can put an operating system on it except by installing the operating system from a bootable CD-ROM. But since your laptop cannot read the Vista installation CD, it appears to be an helpless situation. I cannot think of an easy solution for this case. As your laptop doesn't have any running operating system anymore, then there is no way that you can copy files to its hard drive from any source (floppy drive, CD drive, USB drive, etc). An interim solution is to install XP on it (if you have the XP installation CD). There is a good chance that your laptop can boot from an XP installation CD. Now, with your laptop running on XP, you can copy files to its hard drive from any external source. For the meantime, on your external hard drive, you can extract the Vista files from the ISO file and copy them to a subdirectory on the same external hard drive (you need UltraISO, PowerISO, or WinISO in order to extract the contents of the Vista ISO file). Now, connect the external hard drive to your laptop's USB (that is running on XP) and copy the extracted Vista files to a directory on your laptop's hard drive. After you completed the copying, look for the Vista setup file in the laptop's hard drive directory. Run the setup file and you're now set to go with the Vista installation. After completing the Vista installation, you can then remove the old XP files from your laptop's hard drive. Hope this helps...

change the bios to not boot from the hdd @ all . Then make sure you saved the bios settings to boot from 1-cd, 2-floppy and thats it and see if it comes up with hit any key to boot from cd..Some computers are faster than the hand and the boot from cd stays on the screen maybe 1sec and skips to the hdd...Thanks

Did you remember to press any key when it says press a key to continue? If you don't, it just times out and starts to load from the hard drive.

The app you used to wipe the hard drive didn't do a very good job of it. It left behind part of the OS, that's why. You will need to reformat your hard drive using WinXP disk and start the installation process.
