- Many users are not aware of how much RAM is used by wallpaper and a screensaver full of graphics -- they run in the background and eat memory.
- How many programs do you load at startup? Maybe you should check it out and ensure you are running just what you need.
To do this: cl Start, cl Settings, cl Taskbar and Start Menu.
-cl Start Menu, cl Customize, cl Remove.
-cl the icon for the program you wish to remove
-then cl Remove.
-This will prevent the program from loading at startup, but will not remove the program from the hard disk.
-Are you in a large file? If so, save frequently to restore full memory access. (Your work remains in memory until you “save” it to disk.)
1.Did you run an error check? Open My Computer,
Right-cl on C:, Select Properties, Tools – Run an Error Check ( checkmark “check all and fix); then run a Defrag
2.Are you using Yahoo Toolbar? Run a full Norton Antispy.
3.From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies
delete files (offline files)
clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want)
click o.k., and Restart
3.click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools – run Disk Cleanup
4.click Start, Run ipconfig renew (type ipconfig space renew)
All these things should be done regularly. The more frequently they are run, the less time they take.
-Note: Games and videos are mostly graphics. Graphics create large files. If this doesn’t help, you should consider getting more memory.

Download this free cleaner, run it and delete everything it finds, it cleans deep inside removing old cookies and other crap u dont need>>http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,24149-order,1-page,1-c,alldownloads/description.html then delete all your sister songs she probably has downloaded, put them on a disc and then get rid of them. Go into add/remove and see what programs she has downloaded and whar are lurking in there and if u dont need them remove them. Then do a restart, run Adaware Se Personal, download it if u havnt got , run it and remove all it finds, then get Spybot, do the same with that, and if you could get Xoft and do the same with that. Then create a new restore point on you computer, go to disc cleanup, more options and remove all but the most recent restore point, do a defrag and a restart. That should have given u back tons of free space and ur comp will be faster. If not! FORMAT it and start a fresh!! and tell your sister to get away from it. Peace man.

After you reboot ... restart the computer, click Tools on your browser page and then Internet Options. Then delete Cookies and Temporary Internet Files. On the Yahoo Tool Bar, run the Spyware Scanner or Checker. Then defrag the hard drive. It is also good to use AVG free virus protection, but all other virus software must be removed or disabled first. Make sure you are getting Windows Updates.

Mostly you need to reduce the number of processes that are running in the background.
Firstly install a good spyware detector - if that does not detect anything then you need to check on the processes that run at start up (type run then "msconfig") - you can then check which programs run at start up and click off any you dont need - the tricky bit is knowing which to unclick - thing you can do is to check on the processes on google - what will give you an idea
But memory is so cheap these days - get 1Gb for win xp and you are laughing :-)

It might help to run a virus scan. If need be, update your virus protection software and pop-up blocker. Were you present when your sister was screwing around with your computer? What did she do?

download any free spyware/adware program and it will help in future use's. But for now delete you cookies. Everytime you surf you end up with cookies. They take up space and eventually slow down your computer.
