Hardware - November 2006

I'm possibly looking at getting a slate-style Tablet PC in the future.
Anyone have an idea on the price? I've seen them as low as $1800.00USD
online. I was hoping for one under $1000.00. To clarify: no
keyboard--not the swivel type. If I need a keyboard I'd just get a
generic USB keyboard. Also, have they released any Tablet PC's yet
with the new Intel Core 2 Duo processor? Any other info you'd like to
add about Tablet PC's would also be appreciated.

New computers can come with a variety of pre-installed software. Mine has AOL version 9.0. Sometimes I turn on the computer and an AOL prompt tells me to go ahead and connect to AOL to install version 9.0. I have IE 7, SP2, Windows XP, all the updates needed, and AOL is just being pesty. I don't want it, and how do I remove it? Help me please!

I recently changed color cartridges in my printer, a Lexmark Z611, and now it prints red, not black. And when I print transfers, it doesn't print them mirrored like it's suppost to, so if I were to iron them, they'd be backwards.. whats up? I never had this prob last time.

I know u can use an SD memory Card to save files for the Wii. At IGN it says you might be a able to use an external USB hard drive and that most go for under $100. i wanna know if an external USB hard drive is the same thing as a flash drive. In middle scholl my teacher told us to by some instead of floppy disks and the flash drive has the USB thing so you can plug into comuters and stuff and save videos pictures and stuff.......the Wii has USB slots so is an external USB hard drive the same as a flash drive and can u save games on to a flash drive?

I think I'm having Display problems on my laptop computer seeing how whenever I choose a screen resolution that is smaller than 1024X769, such as 800X600 or something, the laptops screen gets smaller but doesn't actually fit itself into the screen, there is a big black border. Anyway, I would manually resize it but I don't know how seeing how it is a laptop with no buttons on the monitor. So, I figure I need to install an up to date display driver. I have a dell Inspiron 1150. Although, there are a hundred different display drivers available for download!!!!!!!! How do I know which one I need to install??? Thanks for your help in advance.

I want to buy an additional 1GB of RAM. I already have a single stick of 512 GB Kingston ddr400 in one slot. There are 3 slots that will take ddr, but I think only 2 will work in dual channel mode with the ddr 400. Also, I want to buy a stick of 1Gb to run alongside my 512 mb stick, and I wonder if there would be any problems with that setup.

i am currently a 3d animation student and i want to get a new monitor for my computer. my computer is a dell and i have a dell 19 inch monitor (i know this computer isnt the best for animation but its what i have right not and it gets it done). i am looking to get a second monitor so i can have dual monitors on my computer. i was thinking of getting a 19 inch flat screen but not sure what make and model to get. i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or websites to help me decide. also woudl i need to buy any extra parts to hook up a second monitor to my computer.

I have a normal laptop keyboard and I see the num lock button and it's in blue writing underneath scr lk but whenever I press it only the scr lk goes on. And I've tired pressing shift and then it but that doesn't work. Help?
