New hard drives come ready to be formatted and partitioned by Disk #1 of your Sony CD's. It will do it all for ya if you'll just follow through with it's proceedures. It's not hard to do and can be helpful at times because of the knowledge you'll get by doing it. You must be referring to the install cds that came with your, I assume Sony pc. Remove the old hard drive, install the new one and insert the, most likely first, cd. You should have an option to install your software again.
You must be able to boot from the CD for this to work. Most if not all modern pcs can boot from the cd drive.

When you get a new HDD nothing will be on the HDD so when put the new one in the computer will say "No OS found" so put in the 1st cd for the OS in and turn off computer then turn back on, the cds should take over now and it will tell you where you should install the OS. Should be very easy.
