I want to buy an additional 1GB of RAM. I already have a single stick of 512 GB Kingston ddr400 in one slot. There are 3 slots that will take ddr, but I think only 2 will work in dual channel mode with the ddr 400. Also, I want to buy a stick of 1Gb to run alongside my 512 mb stick, and I wonder if there would be any problems with that setup.

To utilize Dual Channel , the modules have to be the same size. For instance 512mb x2. Buy DDR400 2x512mb same brand or buy a dual channel kit and run that in dual channel. Use your current module in another slot. Hope that helps.

Just about all memory sellers have a "configurator" that will tell you exactly what kind of memory you need and in what combination. Here are two such sites:

http://www.crucial.com/

http://www.kahlon.com/

Once you find out what you need, you can shop around for the best prices. Kahlon has some decent prices. So does eBay and these sites:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/

http://www.newegg.com/

http://www.chiefvalue.com/

Hope this helps.

It depend on which kind of Server you are running. Check its special tech guide for more detail. Maybe you need to take two sticks of 512 instead of a 1GB.

Nearly every good RAM merchant has tables on their site because they want to make dead certain you pick the right RAM. Find one, and use it.

Use their 800 number if you have specific questions about using their product.
