Hardware - November 2006

I posted a question about what laptop brands are best and I got some pretty good answers. One of the answers said that what's in the laptop that matters more.
I am a student. I do alot of research, I download alot of music for my ipod, take lots of pictures, did I mention research (lol), and I do alot of e-mailing, writing papers, etc. I also need something that can keep up with speed and doesn't need to be re-booted every 5 minutes. Thanks:)

back again, been bashing my head against the wall with fighting with HP who will not help at all, tried telling me it is a Microsoft issue and pushed me off. Have Windows XP with Microsoft Works 7.0. Still not printing spreadsheet right and has it all messed up. Now HP tells me to go into printers and add printer and put in Deskjet 550C and that should work!!! So my question is, will it hurt anything to do this and why should this work? This is used for a small business and don't need to mess things up anymore than what has been done. This is a complete nightmare!!! Please help so more. Thank you for your responses. They are very much appreciated.

Need serious help with this. My laptop is glitching after maybe 15 min. of use, just started after having the thing for about 2 years (haven't used battery since I had it).. used an anti-virus scan but I can never finish the scan to fix the problem. Tried to format the drive and it will not let me Oh yeah, there's a counterfeit XP OS on here too, but never had a problem before.... Any suggestions?

An Optoma 716 projector accepts rates no more than 85 Hz. When the Emac screen resolution is lowered to 1024 x 768 or less, the refresh rate automatically increases to above 85 Hz. How can I get around the Display Preferences settings to match a resolution of 1024 x 768 with a refresh rate of less <= 85?

suerly if they have sent me a memo agreeing to sale at x price
they have to take it off t he market?...i have sent them confirmation of my mortgage but they told me they will say it's under offer but still show people around? which makes me feel pretty insecure as far as the purchase goes as it could result in a bidding war...and there is a chain involved..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've got 2 toddlers so my laptop screen is constantly being smeared by yoghurty little fingers and snot and old food. Does anybody know a method of cleaning that doesn't leave horrible streaks?

I have a Compaq Presario desktop and my dad replaced the Compaq monitor with this huge Samsung SyncMaster997DF monitor and now you can't see everything on the websites.
I can't see all of the links...I have to put my cursor over the invisible link or radial button to figure out exactly what it is and I changed the colors of my Yahoo page but I can't see that either. Also, when I go maccosmetics.com I can't see the color of any of the color swatches! I don't know how to correct it. I tried checking the monitor setting but that didn't fix everything. My dad screwed this up somehow. I need a computer geek to help me with this one... ;-)

all of my isp's will not work on my computer. that error message that says something along the lines of "...has encountered problems and needs to shut down." then you have that choice to either send report or dont sent report. how can this problem be resolved?

/system32.hal.dll is missing ... how can i fix this error? I do not have a recovery cd or windows xp from dell. I only have 1 OS on laptop and I was not trying to install anything. I just turned on the craptop and that's the error message I am receiving! It's only 6 months old!

all the file applications are on the new hard drive but all the shortcuts dont appear on the desktop or in the All programmes tab after clicking on start, if i do a Find i can find the the files but no way off running them unless the install part of the file is still there
