I am researching my options for a laptop. My first choice is an Apple (Macbook Pro to be exact). But I am interested to know other people's opinions. What brands are best...any advantages or disadvantages of the brands, etc.

It depends on people's prefrences and experiences. Some people may have a good experience with a laptop and it is the best for them. However if something goes wrong they blame the entire company.

If you are going to get an apple, as far as I know only one company makes apple. The rest are IBM compatible. Then get an apple.

There is nothing wrong with an apple. The people I see using apple are people who do alot of art or anything that requires graphics.

The PC is used more for gamming and some of the most common applications are for PC.

With my experience with Laptops. I currently use a Toshiba, it is prety good so far I have used it for a year now and no issues, second would be dell. They have some strudy laptops and there battery last longer then mine. (Toshiba satalite vs Dell Latitude) I haven't used HP laptop so I can not comment on them. IBM thinkpad is pretty expensive. They have all these wierd special series. the "shock proof" hard drive and instant recovery of a virus.

Compaq and Sony are ok, they are a bit pricy because of the big name. There is this new company I havent heard of before so I got to try it. It is in walmart and its very cheap. I do not need a new laptopl right now so I might go play around with someone elses when I meet them.

It all depends on what you want a laptop for.

Dell's are solid laptops and can be quite keep. Nothing too special about them though. I have also had family members who have had problems with their customer support.

Apple laptops have a reputation for being for multimedia applications: video editing, image editing etc. That said, you can now run Windows on an Apple so anything is possible. Apple's are expensive though :(

Really the manufacturer isn't important. It's what is in the laptop that counts - RAM, processor, graphics card etc. The only thing the manufacturer will affect is build quality, level of support etc. But if you go for a big company you should have no problem with these.

I'm partial to Sager. I think Toshiba makes a good notebook for the money.

You can get more bang for the buck with an HP -- but they have a problem holding up over time and their driver sets sometimes border on ridiculous.

Dells are decent and I'm pretty happy with the Gateways I've been working on as well.

In terms of service, I have had bad luck with Dell; but great fortune with my Fujitsu. (Yes, I said Fujitsu.)
