Best thing to do is to completely re-format the drive and then re-install the software that you want to use. By re-formatting, it destroys ALL of the data on the Hard Drive and allows you to 'start with a clean slate' when installing the software of YOUR choice...

You need to get some programs like EvidenceEliminator and NoTrace and then delete all files and scrub with these programs. After running them only the FBI can bring back any "Shadow" files and would not be likely to be involved in your divorce unless you "wack" someone. Just type EvidenceEliminator into your browser as one word or two and hit search or web search or go or whatever your system uses and you can buy and download it on line and no trace is tagged to that sale. Running these will wipe out anywhere and everywhere you have been as long as you run you regular maintenance like your spyware/adware program, you anti-virus, disk cleanup under you accessories tool and disk defragmenter. Then run Evidence eliminator as a safe restart and you are clean. If you download anything from the web - like dirty pictures, etc, you must erase those files - each and every one manually, before cleaning up your disk. You have to stop all subscriptions to things you are concerned about eve if you lose money for membership. Empty and clean each email account where you had contacts and then delete the account. It is a lot of work to cover your tracks and just what crime did you commit that would give "anyone" any authority to sieze your computer or disk?

the one thing you really want to do is not just format the drive but format it at the lowest level. When you delete something from the hard drive, the information is still there, the computer just says that its ok to overwrite that data the next time you move or install something. In a low level format/erase, the computer is told that the file is not there and then it gets completely replaced with 1s and 0s. When you are done you will have a big harddrive filled with nothing but 1s and 0s.

write to 0 over writes every thing and leaves no shadows, then format then clean install of your system. Ben there done that ....without the write to zero program there are programs that can bring up info on a hard drive that has Ben just formated. there are lots of free programs out there. burn it to disk and keep it for future use.

I recommend saving any files or info you want to keep on a disk and deleting Windows completely and reinstalling it. Thats the very best way I know of to get it really clean. If you dont know how to do this, just take it to a local pc repair shop and they will do it for you pretty cheap.

if its that bad and you want to remove all traces.. Go out and buy a new one and install everything from scratch. Take the old one and smash it into pieces and throw it out. That way no forensic investigator or someone with some basic knowledge will ever find anything. Although these programs work, if you got that much incriminating stuff on the drive, why take a chance.

I would suggest that you do a low level format of the drive. Better still, pay someone like the Best Buy Geek Squad to do it for you.

Looks like you're trying to cover your behind due to bad on line behavior. Why else would a guy going THROUGH a divorce want to do that!

Take responsibility for your bad behavior, don't cover it up!
