Branded PC is good but expensive, you can have the same configuration in an assembled PC for much cheaper. Also when you assemble you get to choose the best of each of the parts and you can choose your custom configuration.

Its also true that each part in an assembled PC has warranty and you dont get to lose anything getting an assembled PC. Also the assembler will manage Windows OS and Office and some free stuff which will cost you a fortune when you buy a branded one.

If you are going to assemble the pc yourself its because of the following reasons.

1- you are an expert
2- even though you aren't an expert you would like to learn.
3- you can't afford to pay over $250 bucks at any one time, and prefer to buy the parts for you pc as the money comes in.
4- you want a fully customizable pc with specific high-end parts

If you don't qualify for any of that stuff and just want a pc and get on with your life then buy a branded pc. they will be cheaper than if you were trying to build the same system yourself. Why?, you ask.. well that simple.. these big companies like dell buy/build items (for example cases) in bulk. they can get the same $50 case for $20. And plus on top of all of that you get a warranty.

I'm a tech and i have outgrown building my own pc. it's useless work on my behalf because i already know how to put it together. the only way i would build my own pc from now on is if i'm going to make a gaming machine. or if i decide to build the best pc i can possibly find.

Assembled Pc:: u can choose the components(Ram /Hard disk
capacity,processor speed,mother board etc.,)
based on ur intrest. After assembling u cannot
check ,whether motherboard supports
Processor or all the components supports for
upgradation or some external cards.

Branded Pc:: The components are almost same, but after
assembling they put on testing with experts in
thier laboratories, after successful testing only
they released in the markets.

Conclusion:: Assemblers cannot give gurantee for the
product,Brnaded can give.

Depends. If you want a computer for gaming, video editing, or networking, the new computers are optimized in their choice of hardware. Mind you, the new motherboards only come with 3 PCI slots and if you get the latest and greatest graphics card it goes into one of those slots, the ethernet card gets the last slot. Everything is going USB and/or firewire1399eee.

But, I have to say, know your stuff. I've seen some computers that are branded that have NO upgrade capabilities. I'm thinking of one manufacturer in particular that even has to write their own drivers to get their computers to work.

If you want price, you'll save $300, easily, building your own and can upgrade to quality cards that will help you build a better system every 2 or so years. Of course, then you have to turn around and buy M$ full-install XP. Be wary of Vista. I think it is going to lock out any "borrowed" software content from any source.

I build my own. It depends on your technical proficiency. I will usually get the components from newegg.com or using the search engine on pricewatch.com then slap them all together when I get an hour or so to play around.

If you don't want to be bothered, get one off the shelf or from some mailorder manufacturer. Make sure you understand the warranty and support options before you purchase.

You'll get more bang for your buck if you build yourself. You'll get more support if you buy from somebody else -- unless you purchase from the wrong people.

Caveat Emptor: the satisfaction of good components and vendors standing behind what is sold will outlive the warm and fuzzies of low price by a long shot.

I steer clear of Best Buy for this reason.

As long as the system does not give troubles, any system is okey. but if u know assembling, its better togo for it. with branded one, u have to really go to the service provider.
