get rid of stuff.
1. Uninstall old programs that you don't use anymore
2. run disk cleanup. This will delete cached internet files and old temp files created while installing programs.
3. Archive old photos/documents onto CD's or data DVD's
4. Compress little-used files into zip files (is also an option in disk cleanup)
5. There are also programs you can get that will scan your hard drive for duplicate files that may be taking up extra needed space.

Open up My Computer and right click on your main hard drive, (its probably c) then choose disk cleanup and have it remove things like temporary files and internet cache. You can also remove some programs you dont use anymore and files you dont use anymore. You can also burn large files to cds or dvds to save hard disk space.
