I need a new computer for school next year, and while looking on the Mac homepage, I noticed their new laptop called MacBook. I was wondering if this is a better buy than a Powerbook, what would be the best model to buy, etc. I really appreciate all the help I could get!! Thanks!

Defragging takes forever. I have seen 3rd party apps that claim to speed up the defrag process by restarting your computer in an optimal configuration. Well why pay for that software? Does XP defrag faster in safe mode? What else can help speed up the defrag process on XP?

Well, maybe not possessed, but all it takes lately is the very very slightest pressure on it and it types a "j"... it's extremely sensitive. What could it be and how do I fix it? It's getting very annoying having to press Backspace constantly because it types a j in the middle of a word. Every other key is fine.

I was downloading a movie off Morpheus the other day, and every since then my computer has been freezing and turning off. I've restored twice already and my computer still isn't working properly. I've ran several different spyware/virus deleting programs and I keep getting this "Alexa" file popping up, and the spyware programs say that it's deleted, but when I run another program it says it's still there.. so could I just go ahead and find the file in Windows and delete it? Or would that just cause problems? I'm not too bright when it comes to computers, so any help at all would be muchly appreciated! Thanks so much!

By the way, I've tried to run Norton AntiVirus on safemode and normal mode, but my computer keeps freezing and then turning off half way through the scan! ;(

There is a $90 difference on the laptop I am getting and, though I can afford it, I want to know if it really is worth it to go the extra mile.

I am trying to recover data using a drive rescue program. It shows the files as "clusters" and gives me the option to save these clusters. It won't open and I haven't a clue what a cluster is. Can anyone help? My files are still there, they are coming up, I just can't open them. Thanks

I downloaded the beta of Windows Vista 64 bit edition. I was on the Microsoft site and noticed that Vista has a Windows ReadyBoost feature. Here's what their site says about it:

It looks like you can plug any thumb drive into a USB port on your pc and your pc can use it as additional RAM memory. It seems like this could be an inexpensive way to boost your system performance. Anyone tried it and noticed a difference?

I would like input from those of you who actually use a windows (pentium) based laptop to do your video editing. What type of computer, type of video card, size of hard drive amount of memmory, how much editing you do and if your content with your set-up. Please, no Mac users on this one, I know it is probably the better choice, But I'd like to hear from the windows users now.
Thanks! I've been using a desktop with adobe premiere. I would like to stay with premiere, only because of the "learning" factor and cost of new software. I have been doing my homework, I know I need a dedicated video card (Looking at ATI 9700 w/ 128 mb) and at least a P4 with about a 100gb hard drive(does the speed really matter?) I'm also thinking of 1000 ddr mem, but would 512 be sufficient? or do I need 2000? I do alot of video, and want a machine I can travel with, but I don't have "throw away" money (plus, I'm a really cheap B*******!) So any help here will be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance!

The system gives this message when it is started. If I ignore it and press the Ignore and continue button will it effect my computer in any way.I have been using the computer for 24 hrs since it started giving the alert message on starting the comp. The power plug is well placed.Hence there is no problem from that point of view.
