I think the FX5500 would give similar performance to a R9550
http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/digest3d/0704/
Scan are out of stock of their £30 FX5500/256, but see this link:
http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/
place your order before 10:00am Monday
[ctrl A] [ctrl F] 9660XT [enter] gives:
R9550 250Mb AGP4x/8x 250/400 with 128bit memory interface for £31.71 and a
R9600XT 128Mb AGP 4x/8x 500/600 with 128bit mem i/f
for £81.01 normally £105 about 75% as good as a 9700...

The 9550 wins for me, at the budget end. I also have a 6200 - which comes close - both passively cooled.
IMHO it's not worth spending more unless you're upto £80ish, and scan lists two 6800XT's: a Leadtek £81.19 and an XFX at £83.78 (out of stock).
I can't differentiate the Leadtek's specs from a 6800:
128Mb gpu:300MHz mem:700MHz 256bit 8 pipes Dsub/DVI/Svid
but the XFX looks like my 6800GT:
256Mb gpu:350MHz mem:1000MHz 256bit 8 pipes dualDVI/Svid
omg that's tempting!
[Edit]: When you click on links at the digit life 0704 site above - you'll get a 404 screen! Remove the extra 0704/ from the url and press go! Staight to the bar chart on the link below...

hm.. fx5500 for £75 it is well overpriced!! i wouldnt go for on board graphics as it uses system resources and slows it down greatly!! look at

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/index.htm for cheapest prices.

or another suggestion is to look at CEX.co.uk -- second hand hardware (fx5500 256mb for £25)
