Hibernate - don't shutdown.
If you have to shutdown type msconfig in Start/Run. click the 'Startup' tab and de-select all the stuff you don't need.
Good luck

You should run CHKDSK and defragment your hard drive. Also, hibernation is a more realistic option than always shutting down. Hibernation takes a snapshot of whatever is in your computers memory and then stores in on the hard drive, so it can quickly load it when you power up the next time. It does not consume any power, unlike standby. However, you will need to reboot occasionally as your system may run slower and slower with each successive startup from hibernating.

try going in to the BIOS usually by hitting DEL at startup and then see the options to omit splash screen and ram count .. each systtem is different. also After booting windows completely.. go to the startup folder and star, programs and open that folder by right clicking it and opening the startup folders. Erase all unnecessary files ( I usually erase everything) It won't hurt your computer... Also Eliminate from the taskbar those programs that startup with windows.. You can usuallly right click these task bar icons on the right of your screen... go to their options and prevent them from starting up with Windows...
One last thiing.. download a free version of ccleaner and under tools you can choose to delete a lot of the uneeded startup files that is not related to the system they are usually the ones whose path start with c:\Program Files
Hope that helps,

Depends on how many programs you have installed, as well as, how many programs run automatically when booted up.
