Hardware - June 2006

I clean my computer quite often-from the outside, but I have never opened the tower-I'm scared to death of being shocked!!. Are there some things I can do to find out the cause for this? This has been going on for several months now. When I completely shut the computer down, let it sit for several hours, it will run for 4-5 minutes normally, then a louder noise, and the non-stop fan will begin and not stop. I have a Dell Dimension 3000, Intel Pentium (R) 4 CPU, 3.00 GH2, and 512 MB of RAM. I am aable to follow directions easily, but am not extremely proficient with my computer.

I don't know what I have done, but the flashing cursor from the screen on my computer seems to have disappeared making it really hard to alter spelling mistakes etc in my essays. I have an Acer Aspire laptop running Windows XP. Any suggestions?

I am a grad student who knows a little about compuers, but not much (if you look at my history, you will see that I had a hell of a time with spyware and it took me a while to get it off), anyway, I want a mac because it is not as vulnerable as PCs as far as viruses, etc. Where can I get them a bit cheaper without skipping out on quality? Which do you recommend? If I get a laptop, shoudl I get MacBook or MacBook Pro?

Display of pictures is perfect, but letters have acquired coloured shades so that increasingly legibility is impaired. Is that a sign that the monitor screen (a flat one) is on the blink?

I can only enter my xp now through safe mode with networking...

I tried to reformat using cd, but i can't do that either...

I want to change the left click from a double click to a single click. NB: this is different to simply changing the mouse speed from fast to slow. I am running windows xp professional and know it can be done as I have changed it for my own account setting and want to change it for my friend who has a lot of trouble manipulating the mouse. it worked before, but it just says "no disc" now. it says on the drawer that it is disc re-writable, dvd r\rw, and dvd rewritable. also, i have never been able to burn cds either. i do have a drive that just says "compact disc" though. any suggestions would greatly be appreciated! lol ty

I have read the manuals and online instructions and have ordered the appropriate type of Random Access Memories for my computer and I want to know exactly the best way to put it in. Do I have to turn on the computer without the box closed to see if it turns on or can I just put it in and put the box closed and then plug everything in and turn the computer on?
