I am a grad student who knows a little about compuers, but not much (if you look at my history, you will see that I had a hell of a time with spyware and it took me a while to get it off), anyway, I want a mac because it is not as vulnerable as PCs as far as viruses, etc. Where can I get them a bit cheaper without skipping out on quality? Which do you recommend? If I get a laptop, shoudl I get MacBook or MacBook Pro?

Get the best Mac you can for your budget. The MacBook should be sufficient for what you need.

But if you think the Mac is less vulnerable to spyware or viruses its just a matter of time. If you carelessly surf and don't protect your machine, then the same thing will happen. Windows is more vulnerable because it has such a larger audience for users and potential damage than Mac. But there were major virus outbreaks a couple of weeks ago aimed at the Mac as well.

Try Apple's educational store if you're a student. Main difference between MacBook and Pro for the average user is IMAGE. If you want to seem more professional, get the pro.

I'm not too sure that Mac's are bulletproof! A fire-fox browser might help you out, for awhile. It's just a matter of time!
