if you want to speed up your computer you need to do any of the following:
1. turn off programs that you are not using
2. increase the RAM (Random Acess Memory). laptops usually come with 256MB. 512MB is a good amount
3. Increase the amount of space on your hard drive by deleting programs you don't use
4. get a better processor(CPU). 3-5 GHtz(GigaHertz) processing speed is good
5. go to start, click "Run" type "prefetch" and delete everything in the folder
6. go to start, go to programs, go to accessories, go to System tools, and run "Disk Cleanup" and "Disk Defragmenter"

You have some process running in the background that is eating clock cycles.

Right-click the task bar and click Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab. Resort the list by the CPU column (click the column header). Click again, if necessary, so it sorts in descending order. The CPU column reports which processes are using what % of clock cycles. See what is burning CPU time on your computer. If you do not recognize the process name, Google it, and you will usually be given a website that can explain what the process is. Figure out what's the culprit - it is probably some rogue process that you don't need running.

You probably still have spyware of some sort on your computer, since Ad-Aware and other programs are often bypassed by clever adware programs, or newer programs for which there are no blocking definitions.

Get a free cleaner. Go to www.ccleaner.com and download the file. I had the same problem as you. After running the ccleaner my computer acted like it was brand new.

I also recommend putting in the maximum amount of RAM your computer can support. That's one of the best ways to increase apparent speed.

Have you tried running disk cleanup? If you mean slow to surf web, could be your cookie files, cache and tmp files need to be deleted. If running slow even when running applications, you might be running too many programs in background.Look under system tools and run disk cleanup and defrag before anything else

Maybe having all that adware and virus crap is slogging and filling up the memory. You should upgrade your ram or turn off programs you dont need running all the time, if you need them you can always turn them back on.

go to start> run>type msconfig> then click on start up tab, leave on only what you need.

Is the computer it's self slow or the internet? If it's the computer, or labtop, it's either Full, you proably have to many programs. Check you'r Hard Drive see if it's full. Right click on start, go to Explor or Exlor all users then right click on Local Disk C on the left and go to propties and see if it has anyopen space. If you already ried that uhm.. idk dude good luck

Clear your cache go to tools, Internet options, and click delete files. (trust me I use it all the time and it makes everything go faster) you might also want to try clearing your history... If its also slow offline, when you click delete files make sure you click the check box that says delete all offline content... If you have cookies you should delete those too.

Go into MSCONFIG via the RUN command and see how much useless crap is loading on startup...Dell has tons of junk loading, even on a new machine.
